Increase Your NEAT During Quarantine

Am I telling you to keep your house cleaner? Nah, I’m struggling with that myself.

If you want to lose weight, you should consider increasing your NEAT. NEAT, which stands for non-exercise activity thermogenesis, can lead to long-term weight loss, especially if coupled with a sound nutrition and fitness plan.

Your body burns calories when at rest, just as a function of you living. Your organs and tissue have caloric requirements. Your body also burns a smaller amount of calories by using the food you eat to create usable food in the body. Lastly your body burns calories through activity.

So one way to burn more calories is through formal exercise. That is jogging, Zumba, walking on your treadmill, etc.

Another way to burn calories is through informal movement. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator, playing with your kids or cleaning your house.

If you’re struggling to find the motivation to work-out during your days at home, try focusing on moving frequently throughout the day. Using self-monitoring devices like an Apple Watch of a Fitbit can assist your efforts.
